Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey caused quite a controversy the other day when he stopped into a fast food joint for a quick bite to eat.
It all started when Dorsey tweeted about using his new Cash app to pay for his meal at Chick-fil-A.

It was the kind of self-promotional tweet that could very easily be ignored. After all, who really cares what the hell Jack Dorsey eats for lunch and how he pays for it?
There was just one teensy tiny problem. It’s Pride Month and Chick-fil-A’s CEO is a raging homophobe who opposes same-sex marriage.

Dorsey eventually caved to pressure and apologized for lunching at Chick-fil-A, writing: “You’re right. Completely forgot about their background.”
However, he didn’t delete the tweet. So it’s still up on his Twitter page for his 4.2 million followers to see.
Jack, if you’re reading… Next time, enjoy your greasy chicken sandwich in private. Oh, and maybe delete that tweet?

For years, I avoided Chick-fil-A thinking I was making a sacrifice by not supporting them with my business. I finally tried them a couple months ago and realized my sacrifice was in vain, it was average at best, no better than its competitors. And, almost if expected- I got the ‘god bless you’ from the cashier as I was leaving.

I went there once, back in the 90’s. I wasn’t impressed with the judgemental stare I received at the window, and my sandwich was dry because they didn’t put any condiments in my bag. Their food just tastes dry and bland. The only way I would eat their food is if an erect and repentive Kirk Cameron served it to me in bed. Hence, not in this lifetime!

Many Chic-Fil_A Chain owners do not support the corporate stance. The one in our area has a large number of gay employees. Infiltrating from the inside out. Unfortunately, even though many chain owners do not support this abominable corporate stance, the money for all products from food to napkins fuel the profits of corporate. No easy win. I used to eat there on occasion before corporate made an ass of it’s self. I liked there chicken sandwiches, but since I have not eaten anything from Chic-Fil-A . I wished they would get new owners with a non hating non discriminatory stance.

My spouse and I drive an extra 10 miles to boycott Chic-Fil-A and are willing to pay more for a chicken sandwich that does not support a homophobic owner or seller (they are franchises). If we go on a picnic, and someone in our party has a Chic-Fil-A bag we ask the person if we can buy something fresh for them and then explain. No one was offended (neither gay nor straight). It’s more than just a sentiment or an opinion. I don’t particularly care what anyone thinks about gay people. The issue here is that Chik-fil-A’s corporate leadership puts their anti-gay sentiment into action by using money from the business to fund usually Christian-based causes and groups who lobby Congress to support and enact backwards, harmful anti-gay policies and legislation. Their beliefs are not benign; they target a particular segment of the population they find distasteful and seek to cause harm and prevent people from fully participating in the rights and privileges guaranteed by the Constitution, which everyone else takes for granted.
If someone wants to patronize that business, it’s up to them. They have that right. They get to eat wherever they want and so do I. So far, I still live in a country that gives me the freedom to choose a less bigoted place to spend my money.

I don’t think it matters where this guy eats, even if he does post it on twitter. I after doing some research I am conflicted on Chick-fil-A and their charitable giving. I don’t think an organization is necessarily anti-lbgt if it supports true christian values and and applies those values equally to everyone. Christians have beliefs that do not include out of wedlock sex, and Christians believe that marriage is between a man and a woman. A lot of christians run afowl of these beliefs. A compelling reason other than “because it doesn’t include me” would need to manifest itself for Christianity to change it’s beliefs. Christianity has almost always defined a more narrow path than the population at large follows. I don’t have a problem with that. I think where Christianity and religion run afowl with me is when politicians try to weave selected christian values into government policy while ignoring others. or when christian individuals put themselves in positions that are not in line with their beliefs, and then try to force their beliefs on the people they serve. Chick-fil-A stores have never to my knowledge refused service to anyone based on protected status established by law. I don’t think it’s fair to expect every business and every person in those businesses to actively support every cause, and I understand that some causes are mutually exclusive. At the end of the day, If I’m served a yummy meal by a friendly and kind staff that’s what matters most. We all pick and choose our battles, so I fully understand those who heartily oppose Chick-fil-a, but I’m not one of those people.

Notice all of the wording used to try to hide the fact that Chik Fil ET supports anti-lgbt groups that have pushed for YEARS to strip away or block the basic civil rights of LGBT people.
Notice the soft words covering that up? Notice at the end, the part where “All that matters is a meal served by friendly people”.
This is what the anti-LGBT people want to do, hide bigotry behind soft words and smiles. Just like the good old boys did with Black people. They were all smiles and back slapping with their buddies, and were pillars of the community…..and then at night they would lynch kids and throw people down wells.
