Unstoppable

This gay college track star has his sights set on the U.S. Olympic team

Say hello to L’equan Chapman. He’s an openly gay college track and field star hoping to take his athletic career to the next level.

Chapman recently graduated from Shippensburg University, where he was a standout jumper and sprinter. In 2015, he was named Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Atlantic Region.

Now, he may be headed to the U.S. Olympic team. Chapman was just named one of 97 athletes invited to participate in Team USA’s “Scouting Camp: The Next Olympic Hopeful,” which will air later this month on NBCSN. He will be competing for a spot on the U.S. Men’s National Rugby Team.

Chapmen and about a dozen others are all vying for a spot on the team. If selected, he will receive training at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.

Chapman tells Outsports“It was a tough week physically and mentally. I learned a lot about myself in the process. The mentors were extremely motivational, and shared their stories of determination and sacrifice with us.”

“Scouting Camp: The Next Olympic Hopeful,” will air nationally on August 25 at 9 p.m. on NBCSN. In the mean time, scroll down for photos from Chapman’s Instagram page…
